DESCRIPTION

The Broadway Education Alliance is searching for a diverse group of early-stage musical theater performers to serve as lead actors/teaching artists for CAMP BROADWAY® camps and special events. A successful candidate has professional performing experience, as well as a background in working in educational theater and/or a children’s enrichment programs with amateur children and teens. This is a seasonal position. Some travel may be required.

CAMP BROADWAY® is a Special Drama Desk Award-winning company for “introducing young people to the magic of theater and for playing a crucial role in creating tomorrow’s audiences.” Founded in 1995 and recognized as Broadway’s “original” summer camp, Camp Broadway’s mission is to make theatre arts an accessible and relevant vehicle for creative children to build confidence, hone presentation skills and discover their unique talents. Camp Broadway is a leader in audience engagement and a trusted source for year-round youth enrichment programs, educational workshops and youth performances at iconic venues and events from Carnegie Hall and Radio City to Macy’s Annual Thanksgiving Parade and the Hollywood Christmas Parade in Los Angeles.

Camp Broadway Mainstage is a rigorously scheduled five full-day musical theatre training program for children ages 10-17. (Capacity up to 100). Designed for kids of all levels, it features classes in singing, dancing, acting rehearsals and related activities. It culminates in a Family Finale presentation of songs and scenes from one of two classic musicals.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE—

Assist Camp Broadway management, creative team and/or producer in advance preparation and administration of the program. This includes but is not limited to scheduling meetings and rehearsals, transportation of props and supplies, set-up/breakdown of rehearsal and/or performance space, and other operational duties.

Serve as a mentor, as well as supervisor and chaperone participating children throughout the program. Duties include administration of sign-in and sign-out, lunches and snack breaks, as well as commuting between rehearsal and workshop locations and involvement in supplementary activitieswhen needed.

Collaborate with Director/Choreographer and Music Director by assisting with casting and rehearsal process, coaching children as needed and helping to monitor time and maintain program schedule.

Run workshops in acting, character development and crafts within the framework defined by the company. Supplies provided.

Come to camp prepared to perform the lead role(s) in the final camp showcase. (Script, music, choreography, and online training to be provided prior to start of program.)

Adhere to company standards for professional behavior while in the presence of children and social media guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS—

3+ years professional experience as a performer or teaching artist for live theatre and events

Problem solving skills, including the ability to synthesize and evaluate solutions

Self-motivated, positive, team-oriented and highly collaborative work style

Knowledge of standard musical theatre repertory

Prior experience working with children and teens

Successful applicants are required to submit to a background check and be CPR/First Aid certified (paid for by the company).
