DESCRIPTION

The Virginia Children's Theatre's Professional Summer Internship Program in Theatre Education is an excellent opportunity for college students who are currently studying theatre to gain valuable experience in a thriving professional theatre company.

The internship program is designed to provide a rich and challenging experience for qualified college students, allowing them to be integrally involved in the daily operations of running summer theatre programming for students ranging from 3 years old to 12th grade.

As an intern, you will have the chance to work on a wide range of productions, camps, outreach, and classes, giving you a comprehensive understanding of how a professional theatre company operates. You will also have the opportunity to create connections with local professional theaters, which can be invaluable as you begin your career in the arts.

In addition to gaining hands-on experience, interns will have the opportunity to attend several workshops with professional artists in Roanoke throughout the summer. These workshops will further enhance your educational experience, providing you with valuable insights and skills that you can apply to your future projects and performances.

  • Are reliable
  • Can travel, or be able to relocate, to Roanoke
  • Show previous experience in theatre and a desire to continue learning.

Please complete the below requirements with as much relevant information as possible. They will be reviewed by a committee of staff to determine which candidates will be invited for an interview.

  • A resume citing teaching, acting, technical theatre, directing, & work with youth.
  • References: List 2-3 employers and/or professors or theatre professionals that we may contact in reference to your past experience in theatre and/or work with children or teens.
  • Letter of Recommendation: Please provide one letter of recommendation.
    Attach all to a Cover Letter and answer the following:
    • Describe your goals as an intern and the contribution you would make to the Virginia Children‘s Theatre.
    • Indicate whether interested in theatre education, technical, administrative internship, or comprehensive internship in all aspects of theatre.
    • Describe what you hope to gain by completing this internship.

Benefits:

Pay will be $300 per week without provided housing.

If housing is needed, pay will be $200 a week with provided housing in Roanoke.
